MACHINES

Lab is equipped with necessary softwares and hardwares. all software are easily avialable and mostly open source. AVR studio 4 and Atmel studio 6 are used for programing in embedded C and compile the program. Hex file is generated and is burned on the chip using AVR boatloader software. XCTU to test serial communication terminal software from Nex robotics, foxit reader and other necessary softwares are available in the lab. This state-of-art lab is equipped with myriad range of hardwares and softwares needed for the development of embedded system. The lab successfully establishes coherency with the latest trends in the world embedded and mechanical fabrication trends thus boosting the project development to a great extent.


3D Printing

3D printing or additive manufacturing is a process of making three dimensional solid objects from a digital file. The creation of a 3D printed object is achieved using additive processes. In an additive process an object is created by laying down successive layers of material until the entire object is created. Each of these layers can be seen as a thinly sliced horizontal cross-section of the eventual object.Applications include design visualization, prototyping/CAD, metal casting, architecture, education, geospatial, healthcare and entertainment/retail.

LASER CUTTING AND ENGRAVING

One of the fastest means to prototype through 2D profile cutting. The laser allows us to quickly and precisely cut thin sheets of wood, plastic, and fabric or make intricate engravings on wood, metal, glass and plastics, using focused high power LASER beam to burn away a spot on the material instantly.

AKGEC Fab lab has a 100W laser from SIL and works on RDworks software for control. Any 2D vector graphics design can be cut or engraved using the laser.

HIGH PRECISION DESKTOP MILLING MACHINE

High precision desktop CNC is used in the fab lab to mechanically etch Copper clad board(PCB) to isolate traces. The process uses mechanical etching or milling as opposed to the chemical method which needs special precaution for operation and disposable. The mechanical etching allows creating PCBs with a minimum width of 0.3mm and minimum gap between the traces as 0.4mm.

Apart from the PCB prototyping, the machine is also used for making wax molds to cast silicone rubber parts or to be used in investment casting process where the wax is replaced by a hot metal.

LARGE FORMAT MILLING MACHINE

Large format milling machine in the form of 8x4 bed size milling machine and is used to create bigger size molds and patterns. These molds and pattern are used for laying composites to create strong shells.

The machine can also be used for other purposes such as creating plastic of plywood structures.

3D scanning is one of the most widely used technologies that help in reverse engineering and miniaturization. It uses lasers, structured lighting etc to create a point cloud data of decent accuracy and possibly appearance as well that can then be processed and later 3D printed or can be used to create cad models to replicate using any other means.

SPARK V ROBOT

Spark V is a low cost robot designed for robotics hobbyists and enthusiasts.Spark V robot also has Spark V prototyping board which is mounted on the top of the Spark V robot to add more sensors or electronics on the robot. Spark V robot is based on ATMEGA16A microcontroller.Robot has USB interface for PC connectivity. Robot has onboard socket for XBee wireless module for multi robot and robot to PC communication.Motors are controlled by L293D motor driver. Robot gives top speed of 15cm to 20cm per second depending on the model.

XBEE MODULE

XBee 802.15.4 OEM RF module is used for embedded solutions providing wireless end-point connectivity to devices. This is an ideal module for robots to PC or robots to robots communication. This module can give range of 30 meters indoor or 100 meters outdoor. This XBee wireless device can be directly connected to the serial port (at 3.3V level) of your microcontroller. This module supports data rates of up to 115kbps. It has indoor range of 30 meters and outdoor RF line-of-sight range of up to 100 meters.

RASPBERRY PI

The Raspberry Pi is a credit-card sized computer that has a large range of applications. It is a capable little computer which can be used in electronics projects, and for many of the things that your desktop PC does, like spreadsheets, word-processing and games even creating your own MP3 player. It also plays high-definition video.The most happening application of Raspberry pi is the Internet of Things.

ARDUINO

Arduino is a tool for making computers that can sense and control more of the physical world than your desktop computer. It's an open-source physical computing platform based on a simple microcontroller board, and a development environment for writing software for the board.Arduinocan be used to develop interactive objects, taking inputs from a variety of switches or sensors, and controlling a variety of lights, motors, and other physical outputs.

DEXTER ER-2 HEAVY DUTY ROBOTIC ARM

Dexter ER-2 Heavy Duty Robotic Arm with Controller and Accessories is fully assembled and ready to use Robotic Arm. Robotic arm comes preassembled along with the Servo control card, Servo motion profile generator GUI and Flex sheets with polar and rectangular coordinate systems for the robotic arm.This is a 5 axis robotic arm which is mainly controlled by ATMEGA 2560 microcontroller.

JIGSAW MACHINE

The jigsaw is a power tool mainly intended for cutting plates, wooden boards or wooden beams. It is also possible to cut aluminium profiles with a jigsaw. The saw blade in a jigsaw performs a straight or oscillating stroke motion. Due to its narrow jigsaw blade, a jigsaw is particularly suitable for curve cutting.

CUTOFF MACHINE

Cut-off saw or metal chop saw, is a power tool which is typically used to cut hard materials, such as metals. The cutting action is performed by an abrasive disc, similar to a thin grinding wheel. Technically speaking this is not a saw, as it does not use regularly shaped edges (teeth) for cutting. The abrasive saw generally has a built-in vise or other clamping arrangement, and has the cutting wheel and motor mounted on a pivoting arm attached to a fixed base plate.

MULTIPURPOSE LATHE MACHINE

A lathe is a machine tool which rotates the workpiece on its axis to perform various operations such as cutting, sanding, knurling,drilling, or deformation, facing, turning, with tools that are applied to the workpiece to create an object which has symmetry about an axis of rotation. Lathes are used in woodturning, metalworking, metal spinning, thermal spraying, parts reclamation, and glass-working. Lathes can be used to shape pottery, the best-known design being the potter's wheel. Most suitably equipped metalworking lathes can also be used to produce most solids of revolution, plane surfaces and screw threads or helices. Ornamental lathes can produce three-dimensional solids of incredible complexity. The workpiece is usually held in place by either one or two centers, at least one of which can typically be moved horizontally to accommodate varying workpiece lengths. Other work-holding methods include clamping the work about the axis of rotation using a chuck or collet, or to a faceplate, using clamps or dogs.

HYDRAULIC TEST BENCH

The hydraulic test bench is the ultimate diagnostic tool, capable of thoroughly testing a vast array of new or rebuilt components and sub-assemblies prior to their installation in a working system. The HTB can test the efficiency of hydraulic pumps and motors as well as valves and cylinders. These test benches are designed for general shop testing of hydraulic pumps, valves, motors, and cylinders as individual components. Utilization of a test bench enables the operator to conveniently simulate a component’s function in its circuit and perform a realistic test, thereby providing the necessary quality control before any repaired component is replaced on a machine. Component performance is determined by comparing test results of the component loaded with a manufacturer’s specifications to an unloaded condition.
